Term Limits
In 1990 by a vote of the people Oklahoma became the first state in the Nation to vote for term limits. No more than 12 years of elected public service. The people of Oklahoma as well as many other states have made it perfectly clear that they want term limits. It is disingenuous for any Oklahoma elected official to serve for more than 12 years.
What of the answer to the argument that "term limits hurt your state because only politicians with a long tenure receive committee chairmanships"? This actually goes to the heart of the problem. If this is true then it only helps to prove that career politics is about trading favors and who owes who.
The longer a person remains in public office the more disconnected they become. The longer it has been since they have held a real job, the less they understand the real world and what it is like for you and me.
I have a great deal of respect for someone who stays married for 50 years and absolutely none for someone who is a politician for a lifetime.
